Specification

The charred board and bleached board are our original collection in a unique style, based on advanced wood surface‑modification techniques. Charred Boards are created by burning the wood using the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban method. In addition to the remarkable visual effect, the wood gains enhanced properties in terms of resistance to external factors (natural impregnation), such as moisture, insects, and fungi. Bleached Boards are a perfect match for Scandinavian or Provençal interiors. The bleaching effect is achieved through wood lyeing and the use of whitewashing techniques. We also create boards combining both methods, such as Aranciano and Volcanico, which are first charred and then lightly bleached.

FAQ

A charred board features a distinctive multicoloured appearance. Depending on the degree of surface charring, the board can range from light yellow to almost black. During the charring process, the grain becomes more pronounced, giving the floor an even more natural look. Floors made from charred boards fit perfectly into rustic, colonial, and modern interiors.

Wooden floors can be bleached and brightened in various ways, and depending on the method and wood species, the final effect differs. A bleached board is usually a lighter version of the wood’s natural tone. Bleached oak loses its typical yellowish shade toward white, depending on the degree of bleaching, while its grain remains visible. Ash or hornbeam in a bleached, especially knot‑free grade, become more colour‑uniform. In the sample photos above, you will also find other bleaching variations we offer. These include techniques that create whitening only in intentionally formed grooves on the board’s surface (e.g., through brushing or sawing). We also combine several methods on a single board — charring, bleaching, and saw marks — to achieve unique patterns such as the Rio with saw‑cut texture.
